Devardi glass is a handmade, hand pulled glass that uses very ancient glass formulas. It is very saturated with color and the color remains very true even with high heat. The color of the rods are commonly the colors you will receive in your bead. Devardi is a stiffer glass than other COE 104 glasses, which can be very beneficial for decorations, encasing or scuptors. With different heat settings, most Devardi glass colors provide different effects. The opaques tend to mottle with high heat, resembling a marbled look, or remain the color of the rod with cooler flames. Different oxygen/propane mixes also can give different appearances.
Devardi is different than Moretti glass, and takes some getting used to if you are familiar with Moretti, since it requires different temperatures and gas mixtures. Devardi is generally a lower heat COE 104 glass. Once you become accustom to it, you will find it to be a great glass.

Some drawbacks of Devardi are that some of the Opaque colors can shock a bit easier if not heated slowly. Those who are used to Moretti glass usually apply too much heat to their rods from the start, causing the rods to splinter. Just lower the flame at the start and move your rod to the end of the flame, waiving it in and out, to solve this problem, or just preheat the rods, especially the thicker ones. The semi-opaque and the transparent colors tend to not have this problem. Also, since these rods are hand pulled, they are not perfectly straight or uniform. And the rods will vary in width and length. (See above for sizes.) But this does not affect the quality.
